by Mabuhay Shrine Chapter & Peninsula
Lions Club Inc. Barangay Pundaquit, San Antonio
, Zambales, Philippines July 31, 2005 |
 |
December 2004 we visited
Barangay Pundaquit, San Antiono, Zambales
Philippines and discovered that they
had many children there that were
crippled, burned and had other illnesses.
We promised to do a medical mission
there as soon as was possible. The
mission area is a small resort and
had been busy during the mid summer
months until the rains came.

July 4th, Family Picnic Day- July 4, 2005,
Barrio Barretto, Olongapo City |
 |
We Shriners spend
so much time caring for our burned
or crippled children, medical missions
or raising money for “the love of
children” that our families must think
we have forgotten them. Well we have
not nor will we. So on the 4th of
July 2005 we had our first annual
“family day picnic”. Lots of good
home cooked food, soft drinks and
cold beer. A great time was had by
all.

MEDICAL MISSION
12 DECEMBER 2004 |
Early in 2004 we approached
the Chairman of the Muslim village, located
in Barangay Calapacuan, Subic , Zambales
and asked him if we could do a medical mission
in his area. He started planning and then
received his visa to reside in the United
States and left. It took us some months
before we were able to meet with the new
Chairman. He was very amazed that we wanted
to do a medical mission in his area or village.
He said “you know we are Muslims”? of course
we said, but we see a need here for the
children and the elderly however, due to
limited medical supplies we would prefer
to do the children under the age of 18 and
then at a later time with the help of other
organizations we will do the 18 and above.
This was agreed upon and we did the FIRST
EVER medical mission there and it was very
heart warming to see the little children
saying “thank you sir”! This was before
we were set up to work. Our main focus was
to de-worm and treat for any condition we
were capable of doing with the sources we
had. We also gave all the children a few
days vitamins and treated for fevers and
rashes. We were fortunate to spot a very
recent burnt child which we immediately
rushed the Total Life Care Medical Center
(TLCMC) our main burnt and crippled treatment
center. The little girl that was burnt will
be AOK after she has finished the several
treatments for the burns. If nothing else
happened that day we saved a child from
a life of pain. It does make you feel good!
